Description

The Department of Campus Recreation is seeking to fill Trip Leaders. A Trip Leader is responsible for leading outdoor/adventure trips and activities including but not limited to hiking, backpacking, caving, rock climbing, mountain biking, fishing, skiing/snowboarding, canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, and mountaineering. Trip Leaders will plan trip logistics including developing a trip itinerary, menu planning, requesting gear and equipment, and creating an Emergency Action Plan. Will also pack all necessary gear/equipment/food, communicate with participants, and complete appropriate paperwork. Will ensure proper cleanup and return of all program gear and equipment, completing post-trip reports, and giving and receiving peer feedback. Must attend mandatory weekly staff meetings and participate in ongoing staff development workshops. Must complete the Adventure Recreation Orientation (ARO) program that focuses on leadership development, group and risk management, and trip planning (ARO meets weekly in the evenings for 2-3 hours, includes 1-2 weekend trips and activity-specific training workshops throughout the semester). Guides must maintain a valid Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR (or higher) certification. (WFA and CPR certification may be obtained within 1 semester of hire date and is typically offered during the ARO semester.) Prior outdoor/adventure leadership experience encouraged but not required. Individuals should possess a desire to learn new skills, develop leadership abilities, and interact with others in dynamic and challenging settings. Hours vary depending on trip schedules, but Guides should expect to work 1-2 evenings/week and 5-6 weekends per semester. Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the new expanded and renovated 200,000 sf Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts, the White Building, Adventure Recreation, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports.
