The laboratory of Dr. Keiler at Penn State is seeking a Research Technologist in biochemistry and microbiology. The technologist will be responsible for developing and managing projects relating to development of new antibiotic compounds. Typical experiments will include chemical synthesis and purification of small molecules, in vitro translation assays, drug-binding assays, and bacterial growth inhibition assays. Candidates should have experience in all of the following areas: working with pathogenic bacteria under BSL-2 conditions; whole genome sequencing of bacteria; analytical chemistry techniques such as gas chromatography and HPLC; and analysis of microbial communities. The Technologist will also be responsible for supervising undergraduate researchers and lab management. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Master of Science degree in Microbiology, with additional years of working experience in microbiology and biochemistry is preferred. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with possibility of re-funding.
