The Penn State Department of Biomedical Engineering (College of Engineering) and Department of Neurosurgery (College of Medicine) jointly seek to co-hire, along with other Penn State interdisciplinary institutes, a full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty member starting 2018-19. Successful candidates will have a proven track record of bridging research interests across multiple disciplines and will be hired at the level of assistant, associate, or full professor. The primary tenure home will be in the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME). This BME growth reflects our continued effort in a multi-year expansion that includes a plan to add 12 new tenure-lined BME faculty members by 2020, complete a new state-of-the-art BME building in 2019 and expand the intellectual footprint of BME to compete at the highest levels. Applications from researchers representing a wide array of biomedical engineering/bioengineering research areas are welcomed, and we are particularly interested in candidates with a documented track record in: Systems biology with applications to neural regeneration and tissue engineering. The ideal candidate will take an integrative approach for understanding the neural system, including but not limited to imaging, multi-scale computational modeling, bioinformatics, functional genomics, and design of new biomaterials for optimizing complex tissue functions. Candidates will be expected to secure extramural funding (or have an outstanding track record of securing extramural funding for Associate and Full Professor ranks) in the applications of biomedical engineering to neural regeneration and functional tissue engineering, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and participate in service to further the missions of the department, college, and university. We are looking for qualified individuals who can help bridge activities across interdisciplinary colleges and institutes and who can make a significant impact on Penn State’s biomedical engineering research, educational, and translational activities.
