This position will lead teams through the development of complex systems, applying best practices in customer needs analysis, requirements development, systems architecture and concept development, analysis of alternatives, system and requirements decomposition, detailed design processes, systems and process modeling, systems integration and test, and verification planning and execution. Responsibilities include: Tailor systems engineering processes and techniques to a wide range of technology development activities that span early technology innovation to early acquisition in their development life-cycle, adapt and augment available tools to provide the necessary work products as specified by the customer, consistent with budgetary and schedule constraints; organize and manage multi-disciplinary teams and assist in project management; maintain a working knowledge of DoD, with particular focus on Department of the Navy system engineering practices; maintain awareness of systems engineering tools and techniques; and assist in mentoring other engineers and students with ongoing projects. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Professional Engineer license accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree) or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred for higher level positions) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics is desired. Previous experience with Department of Defense or Department of Navy is preferred. The successful candidate should be inquisitive, proactive, and interested in learning new tools and techniques. Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. These are one-year, fixed-term renewable appointments.
