The Pennsylvania State University College of Nursing (CON) and the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (HMC) invite nominations and applications for a senior faculty member who will be jointly appointed (60% HMC/40% CON) between the CON and the HMC on an academic/clinical appointment. The clinical focus for the appointment is oncology nursing with a strong emphasis in nursing research. The successful candidate will be a recognized leader in nursing with a program of research that contributes to the advancement of nursing science, and translating knowledge into new strategies for promoting innovations in oncology nursing. The position includes leadership of a new Office of Nursing Research at HMC which will collaborate with the Center for Nursing Research in the CON. The focus of both the research office and the research center is to facilitate the development of nursing research in each setting. Support for nursing research in the clinical setting will be an integral component of this position. This faculty member will also contribute to the mission of teaching excellence. Penn State CON has robust programs of research in such areas as end-of-life care, palliative care, dementia and delirium in the older adult, child and adolescent health, and organizational change in complex systems. Excellent opportunities exist for interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty in the College of Health and Human Development, the College of Education, the College of Medicine, and several academic centers within the University. The College’s graduate program is ranked in the top 5% of nursing schools nationwide according to the US News and World Report and offers a diverse array of master’s options, a DNP program in nursing leadership and a PhD program focused on the development of nurse scientists. The Penn State Hershey campus includes the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State College of Medicine, Penn State Children`s Hospital and Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute all which strive to be national leaders in pursuing scientific investigation and developing programs to advance medical and scientific knowledge. The HMC is a Magnet accredited hospital employing more than 2,200 professional nurses. Nursing leadership provides guidance for the structure and process of nursing research and evidence based practice. Hershey nurses disseminate scholarly works through publications and presentations locally, regionally, and nationally. The successful candidate will have a research doctorate and a focused and ongoing program of research in oncology, potential for attracting extramural funding, leadership skills and a documented commitment to teaching and outreach. In addition, the successful candidate will have a passion for supporting the research of others.
