A postdoctoral research/teaching position is available in the Biology Department at The Pennsylvania State University. During the Fall and Spring semesters of this one year appointment, job duties will be divided equally between research and teaching. During the reminder of the appointment, job duties will focus on research. The successful candidate will perform research in the laboratory of Dr. David Hughes, Assistant Professor of Entomology and Biology, at Penn State. The candidate’s research will focus on disease dynamics in ants’ societies. The candidate’s teaching will focus on developing lessons and delivering lectures for BiSc 001: Structure and Function of Organisms (3 credits). Additionally, the successful candidate will work closely with a mentor, participate in a pedagogy class, hold office hours, attend teaching/education seminars, help students develop metacognitive skills, integrate active learning lessons into the course, and participate in academic advising meetings. Minimum requirements for the position include a PhD in Biology or a related field. The ideal candidate will also have experience ants and fungal organismal biology and behavior. An interest in teaching and the application of research-based teaching methods is required.
