Description

The employee will carry out research focused on the enzymatic, motor, and cell biological properties of myosin proteins. Studies are being conducted on cardiac muscle myosin and the impact of disease mutations on structure and function. Other studies are being conducted in the lab on myosin III, a motor protein that is critical for normal hearing and plays a role in the stereocilia/microvilli of inner ear hair cells and photoreceptors. Our overall goal is to understand the role of myosins in specific cellular processes, determine how they are regulated, and determine how disruption of myosin genes leads to genetic diseases such as cardiomyopathy and deafness. Candidates should have a strong educational background in biochemistry/biophysics and molecular/cell biology. A solid background in molecular biology, cell culture, protein expression and purification techniques is necessary. The employee’s principal responsibilities will be carried out under the guidance of Dr. Christopher Yengo and include conducting molecular biology experiments, maintenance of cell culture, preparation of reagents for research, collection and analysis of samples, collect and record experimental data. The employee will also oversee the research supplies for the lab. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
