The Systems Engineering group in Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations (EI&O), a unit of Enterprise IT, is looking for a highly motivated and creative individual with a unique combination of Systems Administration experience and additional background in UNIX and open source/open standards based Web hosting services and programming. This individual will be expected to work intimately and proactively in and with the teams responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining various Web hosting services in a high-availability and high-visibility environment that is centrally available to the entire University, and to be able to demonstrate similar interactions in previous positions. Additional duties will include the development of solutions to enhance interoperability in a heterogeneous computing environment as well as develop and support Web-based software applications. NOTE: The 7x24x365 availability of campus technology services may require work outside regular work hours to solve operational problems or ensure proper functioning of services. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Experience as a Web hosting administrator in addition to two years as a Systems Administrator in a high-availability production environment is required. Open standards and Web-based programming development experience required, including in languages such as Perl, PHP, JavaScript, C/C++, Java. Relational database programming experience, including with MySQL and derivatives required. Sufficient networking experience to design, configure and diagnose/analyze operational Internet-based services is required. Systems development, systems management and systems integration experience is required. Experience with managing and extending the Drupal content management system (CMS) preferred. Demonstrable experience working with production systems on multiple platforms is highly desired. Must possess strong analytical and problem solving skills, proficient oral and written communication skills, plus the ability to interact with audiences of various technical abilities. The successful candidate must have a track record of working with inter-group teams to architect, develop, and test applications. Receptivity to constant upgrading of skills is essential. The individual must be willing to broaden their knowledge in a heterogeneous computing environment in order to ensure interoperability with our open standards-based infrastructure.
