Description

The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Computational Scientist for our Computational Methods Development Department, located in the Fluid Dynamics and Acoustics Office. Responsibilities include: Perform physics-based code development, verification, and validation in new and existing business areas, including overset grid methods, unstructured and adaptive grid algorithms, multiphase flows, vehicle maneuvering, fluid-structure interaction, ship hydrodynamics, and turbo-machinery; mature and develop business relationships and programs with other ARL offices, industry, and government; pursue new relationships with academic departments on campus; and work towards promotion in the faculty ranks. Faculty rank will be commensurate with education level and experience. Minimum requirements include a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Science and Mechanics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Mechanics, or another related field. You must have strong skills in C++, version control systems, and parallel programming, and you will be expected to contribute substantially to the development of state-of-the-art DES/LES and fluid-structure interaction codes. Additional knowledge of the commercial codes, especially StarCCM+ is highly desirable, as is familiarity with Pointwise and post-processing tools. Command line Linux high performance computing experience is essential. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Candidate will be subject to a government security investigation. U.S. citizenship is required. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This is a one-year, fixed-term renewable appointment.
