Description

A Research Technologist 1 or 2 position is available immediately in the laboratory of Drs. D. Channe Gowda and John Flanagan, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey, PA. Duties include: Ordering lab supply; PCR; SDS-PAGE and Western blotting; cloning and isolation of cloned plasmids; site-directed mutagenesis; mammalian cell culturing; plasmid transfection and expression of proteins in mammalian cells; isolation and purification of proteins using affinity, ion-exchange, and size-exclusion chromatography; malaria parasite culturing using human blood collected from volunteers, and plasma; parasite adhesion and binding inhibition assay; ELISA; screening of small molecule libraries using an inhibition assay. Maintenance of mammalian and malaria parasite stocks. Good laboratory practice with regard to conducting experiments, record keeping and organizing data. Work on the above independently and/or with senior investigators. The project also involves malaria parasite culturing, cell adhesion assay, and identification of small molecule inhibitors by throughput screening. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. We are looking for a motivated individual who has Bachelor's or Master's degree and experience in tissue culture, cloning, protein expression and purification or structural characterization. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire
