Research and Development Engineer
The Undersea Systems Office (USO) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is looking for motivated and talented engineers to assist current USO leadership in a number of critical roles, including: Application of current modeling and simulation capabilities toward answering emerging Navy undersea system needs; execution of simulation studies, condensing results into a cohesive, actionable message for the sponsoring activity; refinement of current modeling techniques toward improving future capabilities and expanding customer base; development of a modeling paradigm to bridge the gap between legacy approaches to more modern development environments (e.g., Simulink) without compromising accuracy, fidelity, or computational efficiency; expanding component, subsystem, or system-level perspective toward answering family-of-system and/or system interoperability questions; and use in-water data and high-fidelity modeling and simulation to arrive at well-thought tactical strategies for the warfighter. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Professional Engineer license accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree) or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Physics, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science is desired. Experience in the following is preferred: Undersea system physics-based modeling and simulation; system engineering perspective; signal processing and acoustic propagation; and MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++. Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. These are one-year, fixed-term renewable appointments.
