The Eberly College of Science seeks an Assistant Dean for Science Diversity and Inclusion. Increasing equity among our faculty, staff, and students is a priority and strategic initiative for the College. Maintaining and developing partnerships with minority-serving institutions, secondary schools, and federal and state programs that might be sources of talented and motivated students from underrepresented groups is another primary objective for this position. This position will report directly to the Dean. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of student support services for students from traditionally under-represented groups as they relate to gender, race, ethnicity, condition of ability, sexual orientation and gender identity, and socio-economic status. Working closely with the College’s leadership team, faculty and other units across the University, the successful candidate will be responsible for strategic planning and for the implementation and management of programs designed to recruit, retain, and support diverse pools of undergraduate and graduate students. They will be responsible for identifying and securing grants and other sources of funding that will directly support various diversity initiatives throughout the college; will work to promote a culture of diversity and equity; will coordinate training opportunities for faculty with respect to diversity initiatives; and will represent the College on University-wide committees or activities connected with diversity enhancement programs. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Office of the Vice Provost for Educational Equity and is expected to contribute to University-wide programs that promote diversity at Penn State. In addition, this position will continue to provide leadership for three university initiatives: Bunton Waller programs, First Year in Science and Engineering (FISE) House, and PA Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) events. The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in diversity, multicultural affairs roles, or a related field is strongly preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Strong initiative, self-motivation and high standards of excellence also required.
