The Institute for CyberScience (ICS) seeks a Senior Software Specialist for Advanced CyberInfrastructure to join our operations team. You will be an integral contributor to a dynamic and growing team of specialists supported by an exciting $45 million Penn State investment in advanced research cyberinfrastructure (ICS-ACI). Penn State’s elite researchers use our high-performance research cloud to solve real-world problems by conducting simulations, data mining, and other high-performance computing operations. You will participate as an important member of our community of specialists to support this ground-breaking work. As our Senior Software Specialist for Advanced CyberInfrastructure, you will work as part of a team to: serve as liaison to research groups to analyze job usage and performance to improve productivity; work with Penn State researchers to diagnose issues related to scientific software applications and develop and present advanced technical solutions; identify routine issues that can be resolved more efficiently through automation, process improvement and/or user training; develop user support documentation and training materials to increase the effective use of the ICS-ACI resources; support the installation, configuration management, and operation of scientific software applications. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred candidates will have an advanced degree in an Engineering or Science discipline with experience in running scientific software in a university HPC setting. Experience with programming languages (e.g. C++, Fortran, or Java) and/or parallel interfaces, such as MPI code. Other competencies that are a plus: experience with high performance computing clusters; working knowledge of configuring and building scientific software applications using Makefiles, autotools, CMake, and rpmbuild; basic knowledge of any of the following: scripting skills (e.g. bash), Python, MATLAB, R; OpenACC, OpenMP.
