Position Available: The Wayne K. and Anita Woolfolk Hoy Endowed Professorship of Education in Educational Leadership. We are seeking an experienced scholar whose credentials will be commensurate with appointment at the full professor level. We are especially interested in recruiting a scholar with a strong focus on educational leadership who studies equity through a lens of organizational climate and behavior, resource allocation, education law, or educator development and evaluation. Appointment conditions: This is a tenure-track, 36-week appointment with the possibility of supplementary summer appointments in research and/or teaching. Full University benefits apply. Responsibilities: Conduct nationally and internationally recognized research and scholarship related to educational leadership. Advise doctoral and master’s students in the Educational Leadership graduate program. Seek and secure external support for research. Provide vision and leadership to program revisions and new program initiatives. Teach courses on campus and online to graduate students with interests in educational leadership. Make strong linkages in the field and to the profession by engaging in service and outreach activities with appropriate audiences, including practitioners. Required qualifications: Earned doctorate in Educational Leadership, Educational Policy or a relevant discipline including but not limited to: public policy, economics, political science, demography, educational law, or sociology. Evidence of an accomplished and robust program of research demonstrating leadership in the field. Evidence of interest in obtaining external funding to support research. Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising including a willingness to teach in online environments along with an interest in the use of modern technology. Evidence of strong collaboration with and mentorship of graduate students in research and/or evaluation efforts. Evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Desirable qualifications: Expertise in any of the following: School finance and/or resource allocation; Organizational theory, organizational change, organizational accountability; Educational law; School climate; Tradeoffs between equity, efficiency, and adequacy in educational settings; Instructional leadership, supervision, and teacher professional development; Relationships between social context and leadership; or the Evaluation of educational organizations. Interest in K-12 educational systems. Evidence of a strong commitment to public service. Evidence of collaboration across academic disciplines and academic units. Commitment to networking with relevant University, state, and/or national centers. Experience teaching online or hybrid/blended courses. Department of Education Policy Studies (EPS) The Educational Leadership Program is housed in the Department of Education Policy Studies, which includes three degree-granting programs: Higher Education, Educational Theory and Policy, and Educational Leadership (where this position is situated). The Department also shares a program in Comparative International Education and has a joint JD/PhD with the Law School. Penn State`s Educational Leadership Program (] prepares master`s and doctoral students capable of researching, analyzing, and managing the critical issues and concerns facing elementary and secondary education in the United States and internationally. Ranked as the ninth Educational Leadership program in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, the program offers doctoral and master`s degrees in Educational Leadership and a joint graduate degree program with the Penn State School of Law. Additionally, the program provides the Principal and Superintendent Certification Programs, which are fully accredited by the State of Pennsylvania and NCATE. Educational Leadership faculty members serve as editors, associate editors, or editorial board members for seven academic journals, including the American Journal of Education, Journal of Research in Rural Education, and Education Finance and Policy []. Several centers are led by program faculty, including the Center for Education and Civil Rights, the Center for the Study of Leadership and Ethics, Center on Rural Education and Communities, Center for Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, and the Pennsylvania School Study Council.
