Description

The mission of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is to serve as a center of research excellence in undersea science and technology. In fulfillment of this mission, ARL: Conducts basic and applied research, exploratory development, and advanced development in support of the Navy`s undersea technology base and related mission areas; contributes to the educational objectives, research goals, and scholarly reputation of Penn State; and promotes the transfer of advanced technology, technology extension, and training to the governmental and industrial sectors. As a co-op, you will: Participate and become an integral member of our engineering team working directly under the mentorship of a senior technical expert on a funded project with specific deadlines and deliverables. You will be given the opportunity to participate in our in-house education series and have use of our Navigation Library which will serve to further your engineering knowledge. Assignments will be made in accordance with your education, experience and interests. Typical assignments will include one or more of the following tasks, selected to satisfy your objective and to support our program needs: Develop new technology navigation sensors (gyroscopes and accelerometers), new GPS capabilities and electronics for advanced prototype navigation systems; develop system algorithms and windows and Linux navigation applications for desktop and embedded systems; apply analytic techniques to evaluate sensor and system performance and operational effectiveness; work in our specialized laboratories and assist design engineers in developing specialized circuitry and software for prototype navigation systems , and test and evaluation systems; perform test operations using state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and instrumentation; conduct analyses, applying statistical processes and characterize real and simulated data. Undergraduate and Graduate students with the following majors are preferred: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, and Mathematics. You will be subject to a government security investigation and you must be a U.S. citizen to apply. These positions are located in at ARL’s Navigation Research and Development Center in Warminster, PA. These positions will not include relocation and housing will not be provided. Students must be available to work at the Warminster facility for a six month time period. Multiple vacancies are available.
