WPSU Penn State is seeking an on-air host/producer/writer experienced in covering local public affairs for TV and radio broadcast and digital distribution. Primary duties include producing, writing, and hosting public affairs programs, in-depth interviews, and feature content as well as moderating panel discussions and political debates. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a broad knowledge of current events, an awareness of relevant community issues, and an intrinsic curiosity and enthusiasm for learning more about the topics they cover. The candidate must have a strong understanding of journalistic principles, ethics, and fairness. An understanding of public media’s unique role in American media and familiarity with the NPR style is required (though previous experience in public broadcasting is not). Prior on-camera experience is helpful. This position requires someone who’s a skilled writer and interviewer, who works efficiently, embraces technology, is experienced at recording and editing audio, and has a strong interest in diverse broadcast platforms including digital media. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or a related writing-intensive discipline is preferred. Experience working in public media is a plus. Applicants should be prepared to share a demo reel of past projects. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. We seek candidates who are able to demonstrate experience and ability to advance Outreach’s diversity initiative.
