Penn State’s Fruit Research and Extension Center located in Biglerville, PA is seeking an Agricultural Operations Specialist 4 to manage agricultural research orchards, equipment, vehicles, greenhouses, refrigerated storages and laboratory facilities necessary in accomplishing goals and missions of the Center. Individual will serve in an official capacity for safety, plant protections, bio safety, and regulatory compliance of the Center. Individual will oversee all physical plant maintenance and interface with PSU Office of Physical Plant for all related needs of the Center. Individual will be responsible for overseeing five field service technicians and all planning, organizing and supervision of work they perform to maintain research orchards and facilities. Daily collaboration and long-term planning with Center’s faculty members, graduate students and visiting scientists to ensure their laboratories and research orchards are maintained as needed for successful research. The Agricultural Operations Specialist will be responsible for interfacing with outside service providers needed for completing various necessary functions falling outside of the duties assigned to field service technicians such as plumbing contractors, electrical contractors, building contractors, etc. Excellent organizational, verbal communication and documentation skills are essential. The ability to work within a team environment and to demonstrate a genuine appreciation in working with diverse audiences are vital requirements. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced knowledge of fruit production practices is essential. Managerial/ supervisory experience is desired. Working Conditions: Specific physical requirements and effort are outlined in Job Responsibilities Worksheet (list of essential job duties and responsibilities specific to a particular job at the unit level) in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) Other Requirements: Regulatory certifications such as commercial pesticide applicator’s license, hazardous materials endorsements, commercial driver’s license, etc., may be required. This position requires that candidate acquire certified commercial pesticide applicator license within 90 days of hire and duties will require the operation of motor vehicles. Since this position requires you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties, a valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
