Description

The Materials Processing Division of ARL is looking for several highly motivated undergraduate students to assist with various activities. Activities may include material synthesis, processing, characterization, device fabrication, and process simulation for fabrication and development of advanced materials and material systems for a broad range of programs involving cold spray, sputtering, chemical vapor deposition, physical vapor deposition, hot pressing, plating and microelectronics fabrication. Potential material systems include ceramic, metallic, semiconductors, and/or mixed combination for corrosion resistance, wear resistance, erosion resistance, thermal protection, or optical performance. Selected applicants may be responsible for developing finite element models, set up and monitor experimental designs, and compile and analyze data for a wide range of materials and coatings comprised of nanocomposite, nanolayered, multilayered, functionally graded, and multifunctional material systems for property enhancement and performance for a variety of application in the aerospace, defense, tooling, biomedical, nuclear, microelectronic and optical industries. Students must be a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in Materials Science and Engineering, Engineering Science & Mechanics, or Engineering and available to work up to 20 hours per week during fall and springs semesters and up to 40 hours during the summer semesters. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen in addition to standard background checks.
