The Program Manager (PM) provides direct supervision to the Resident Director(RD), Resident Assistant Directors (RADs) and all Resident Assistants (RAs) who are employed at the Early Reach Academy program located at Penn State Harrisburg, Middletown, PA. The Early Reach Academy is a two-week experience for high school students with disabilities. The PM provides support to the Program Administrators, staff and student participants. In addition, the PM plays a vital role in developing a positive, safe and enriching program experience for RAs and RADs and students. Must currently hold a Master’s degree or be enrolled in a Master’s program in the field of Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Education or Health and Human Services. Must also have worked at the Early Reach Academy and held the position of Resident Assistant, Resident Assistant Director or Resident Director. The PM must be committed to creating an inclusive environment where all students can reach their potential emotionally, socially, intellectually, physically and culturally; willing to encourage the RD, RADs, RAs and students to reach their highest level of potential at all times; open to efficient and effective communication with the Program Administrators, RD, RADs, RAs, students and staff; and able to connect with the Program Administrators, RD, RADs, RAs and students genuinely and significantly. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervision of two RD’s, three RAD’s, and approximately 30 RA’s; oversee 25-30 students in the dormitory setting; supervise and ensure the safety for all students, especially overnight and during evening and weekend activities; supervise “late watch” rounds of the dormitory setting to enforce curfew and lights out; post, read and maintain all information, announcements or notes pertaining to the students and the daily schedule; collaborate and communicate with Program Administrators to implement all Early Reach Academy daily operations; enforce the rules, regulations and policies of Penn State Harrisburg housing, as well as the information provided during staff orientation; manage decisions regarding any overnight emergency and inform appropriate administrative staff; report illnesses, accidents, behavior problems, maintenance issues and cases of loss/damaged/stolen property to program director. Coordinate and implement planned activities. Ability to travel independently while performing all job duties. Ability to independently complete all assignments, responsibilities and duties listed above. Candidate must be able to walk for extended amounts of time, have the ability to lift between 25-50 lbs. with or without accommodation, and possibly participate in intense physical activities. PM must reside in the dormitory with the students and will be provided a private room. PM will be “on call” and in the dormitory every night from 11:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. PM will be required to be in the dormitory during both their assigned shift and overnight hours. Employment will require attendance at the RA training orientation days from July 6 – 8, 2017. Daily work will vary based on the Early Reach Academy Schedule and will average 8-10 hours per day with overnight hours from 11:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. On campus housing will be provided and required. Meals will be provided at Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg. Parking passes are provided for the duration of the training dates and program.
