Description

The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at The Pennsylvania State University (PSU) is looking for a talented and highly motivated software engineer to assist in the development, test, and transition of software systems to operationally critical environments. You will become a software development team member and will interact with other ARL/PSU staff members, spending a majority of time working in a classified environment at an ARL facility located in Reston, VA. Responsibilities include working within an agile development environment with other software developers, scrum master, and product owners to develop and deliver quality solutions. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Professional Engineer license accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree) or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is desired. Detailed knowledge of multiple programming languages, including Java or C++, is also desired. Software development is performed within an AGILE/SCRUM process, so knowledge of continuous build integration and development operations is desired. A self-starter comfortable working in a team environment is a must; therefore, excellent interpersonal, along with oral and written communication skills, are critical. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This is a one-year, fixed-term renewable appointment. www.arl.psu.edu
