Resident assistants (RAs) provide support to student participants who are enrolled in the Early Reach Academy located at Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg, PA. The Early Reach Academy is a two-week experience for high school students with disabilities. All RAs play a vital role in developing a positive, safe and enriching program experience for every student. RAs work closely with the students, resident assistant directors (RAD), resident director (RD), program directors and staff. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing 25-30 students in dormitory setting, chaperoning activities both on and off campus; possibly assisting staff with preparation, organization, and instructions of activities; sharing mealtime supervision and support of students; attending scheduled training sessions and staff meetings and meeting paperwork deadlines; enforce curfew and lights out; report illnesses, accidents, behavior problems, maintenance issues and cases of loss/damaged/stolen property to program director; keep accurate record of names, room assignments, activity set-up, and student’s schedules. Ability to communicate clearly in person and/or in written format. Ability to relate to students and Summer Academy staff in a professional and productive manner. Coordinate and implement planned activities. Ability to travel independently while performing all job duties. Ability to independently complete all assignments, responsibilities and duties listed above. Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling information and notes pertaining to students. Candidate must be able to walk for extended amounts of time, have the ability to lift between 25-50 lbs. with or without accommodation, and possibly participate in intense physical activities. Employment will require attendance at the RA training orientation days from July 6 – 8, 2017. Daily work will vary based on the Early Reach Academy Schedule and will average 8-10 hours per day. On campus housing will be provided and required. Meals will be provided at Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg. Successful applicants must pass or show proof of the three publically available clearances (PA State Police, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprinting).
