Resident Director (RD) provides direct supervision to the resident assistant directors (RADs) and all Resident Assistants (RAs) who are employed at the Early Reach Academy located at Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg, PA. In addition, the RD provides support to student participants. The Early Reach Academy is a two-week experience for high school students with disabilities. The RD plays a vital role in developing a positive, safe and enriching program experience for RAs and RADs and students. The RD works closely with the students, RADs, RAs, program directors and staff. The Resident Director must be committed to creating an inclusive environment where all students can reach their potential emotionally, socially, intellectually, physically and culturally; willing to encourage the RADs, RAs and students to reach their highest level of potential at all times; open to efficient and effective communication with the RADs, RAs, students and staff; able to connect with the RADs, RAs and students genuinely and significantly. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervision of the RADs and supervision of approximately 30 RAs; overseeing 25-30 students in dormitory setting; maintaining a record of the RAD and RA schedules; chaperoning and supervising of activities both on and off campus; assisting staff with preparation, organization and instruction of activities inside or outside of the classroom; attending scheduled training and meeting paper work deadlines; overseeing weekend and evening activities in conjunction with staff; supervise “late watch” rounds of the dormitory setting to enforce curfew and lights out; enforce the rules, regulations and policies of Penn State Harrisburg housing, as well as the information provided during staff orientation; report illnesses, accidents, behavior problems, maintenance issues and cases of loss/damaged/stolen property to program director. Ability to communicate clearly in person and/or in written format. Ability to relate to students and Early Reach Academy staff in a professional and productive manner. Coordinate and implement planned activities. Ability to travel independently while performing all job duties. Ability to independently complete all assignments, responsibilities and duties listed above. Candidate must be able to walk for extended amounts of time, have the ability to lift between 25-50 lbs. with or without accommodation, and possibly participate in intense physical activities. Employment will require attendance at the RA training orientation days from July 6 – 8, 2017. Daily work will vary based on the Early Reach Academy Schedule and will average 8-10 hours per day. On campus housing will be provided and required. Meals will be provided at The Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg. Successful applicants must pass or show proof of the three publically available clearances (PA State Police, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprinting).
