These instructors will collaborate closely with a team of faculty, providing instruction and mentoring during a 5-week summer intensive, teaching English as a second language certificate program in Ecuador. Teach or co-teach one or more courses covering TESL methodology, second language acquisition, and culture in the ESL classroom. Model effective instructional practices for emerging bilingual students in teaching an English language class for Ecuadorian English language learners (groups of learners from both elementary and secondary levels). Act as teaching coach for novice teachers of ESL through observation, feedback, and directed reflection. Mentor student-participants on issues of culture, cultural adjustment and personal concerns that arise during the program. Qualifications: Three or more years experience teaching ESL, particularly in a K-12, US public school setting; experience teaching TESL and/or experience supervising or mentoring ESL teachers; a master’s degree in TESL or related field; extensive experience working and living abroad, with the demonstrated ability to promote understanding across cultural differences and facilitate students’ cultural adjustment. Some preparatory work will be completed though electronic and in person meetings during the spring semester. Ecuador program dates are June 17, 2017 - July 23, 2017 (instructors travel prior to student arrival).
