Responsibilities: Tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a 25% teaching and 75% research appointment. The successful applicant is expected to develop an externally funded, high impact research program on plant root biology and rhizosphere interactions. In particular, we seek candidates broadly focused on investigation of the complexity of plant root modification of the rhizosphere and corresponding impacts on the root microbiome. We are looking for candidates using cutting-edge approaches to uncover the functional roles of plant roots and microorganisms in agroecosystems and we are particularly interested in candidates whose research may be applied to enhance agricultural productivity. Research opportunities include but are not limited to understanding the control of root metabolite efflux, control of root development/architecture and root based modification of the rhizosphere redox environment. Opportunities exist for applied research serving a variety of crop industries in the state, including agronomic and horticultural systems. Teaching responsibilities will include advanced and undergraduate courses in Plant Science. Candidates will be evaluated on their potential for publishing high impact work, obtaining extramural funding, teaching excellence, and collaboration in research and teaching within and outside the Department. This position is part of a cluster of faculty hires centered on building excellence in microbiome research. Qualifications: Ph.D. in plant biology or a related field is required, and postdoctoral experience indicating independence and productivity is preferred. Applicants should provide evidence of strong potential for conducting and publishing research, being competitive for external research funding, excellence in research methods, excellence in teaching, and strong interest and skills to mentor and advise graduate students. Interest in and ability to contribute to interdisciplinary research collaborations in one or more areas central to the College of Agricultural Sciences strategic plan, including sustainability, advanced agricultural systems, integrated health solutions, entrepreneurship, and environmental resilience, is expected. An ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students across the university is required. Salary: Competitive, commensurate with background and experience.
