Penn State Harrisburg is seeking to fill three (3) part-time Police Officer positions. The assigned work hours may vary. This position requires the availability and willingness to work various hours, including patrol and special details/events. University Police Officers are responsible for carrying out the functions of protection of life and property, preservation of peace and good order of the community, enforcement of laws, investigative work and other related duties. The position is responsible for the prevention of criminal, unsafe or undesirable activity and regulatory violations through pro-active policing techniques. The candidate will be required to respond to requests for assistance or service and reports of criminal activity and apply appropriate decision making skills to properly handle these incidents. The candidate will be required to complete detailed reports utilizing the Department’s computerized records management system. The successful candidate will possess skills necessary to enhance public respect for law enforcement and the University with courteous, devoted and ethical service and will demonstrate: the ability to work cooperatively with various levels of faculty, staff, students, and outside agencies; outstanding customer service orientation; excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent analytical, judgment, and organization skills; and the ability to work with a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PA Act 120 Certification is required. U.S. Citizenship; a Pennsylvania driver’s license or the ability to obtain one; and the successful completion of a psychological and physical examination is required. Must pass a physical ability test and be in good general health as determined by University physical examination. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. Successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required. Due to the financial or fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will also be required in addition to standard background checks.
