Applications are invited for multiple tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks. Outstanding candidates in all areas of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) will be considered. Areas of particular interest are: computer architecture/hardware systems, software systems, and data science. CSE is housed in the new School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), created to accelerate and exploit innovations across computation, communications, applications and basic science. With more than 84 faculty members, 2500 undergraduate students, and 400 graduate students, EECS is one of the largest and most prominent units at Penn State or the country. CSE hiring is being coordinated with college and university-wide initiatives in areas such as data science and security. CSE has one NAE member, two NSF PECASE winners, and several IEEE/ACM Fellows. The department hosts prominent large-scale research programs including the Collaborative Research Alliance for the Science of Security, a Collaborative Technology Alliance for Network Science and an NSF Expeditions in Computing award. State-of-the-art research labs investigate computer systems, computer vision and robotics, microsystems design and VLSI, networking and security, high performance computing, bioinformatics and virtual environments. CSE is ranked 8th in the nation in research expenditures, and the U.S. News and World Report consistently ranks Penn State's College of Engineering undergraduate and graduate programs among the top in the nation. The Institute for CyberScience (ICS; http://ics.psu.edu) is one of Penn State’s five university-wide research institutes that accelerate discovery and advance interdisciplinary, collaborative team science. The ICS has 20 tenure-line faculty spread across the university, cultivating a diverse and growing community of scholars engaged in interdisciplinary computation- and data-enabled research and learning, and houses the Advanced Cyber Infrastructure (ICS-ACI), the center of high performance computing at Penn State. Further information on ICS can be found at http://ics.psu.edu. The University is located in the beautiful town of State College, which is ranked one of the best college towns in the U.S. The area has 130,000 inhabitants and offers a wide variety of cultural and outdoor recreational activities, and outstanding University events, from collegiate sports to fine arts productions. Applicants with families will appreciate the outstanding K-12 education. The State College public high school achieved national ranking in the 2015 U.S. News and World Report, and produced a 2016 MacArthur Fellow. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related field and should be committed to excellence in both research and teaching. Further, the candidate will provide leadership to cement the growing collaborations between the CSE and the Institute for CyberScience in all areas of Computer Science and Engineering. Support will be provided to the successful applicants to establish their research programs. We encourage applications from individuals of diverse background, and dual career couples. Applicants should submit a statement of professional interests, curriculum vitae, and the names and addresses of four references. Please submit these items in a single PDF file electronically at https://psu.jobs/job/67014. Applications will continue to be accepted until all positions are filled.
