Description

Penn State Greater Allegheny is searching for group exercise instructors! Instructors are responsible for providing safe and effective exercises and physical activities through instruction of fitness/physical activity classes. This is a casual, part-time and contracted fitness instructor position. Fitness instructors are expected to conduct fitness classes in a fun, safe and effective manner, provide an encouraging and motivating atmosphere while helping participants achieve their fitness goals. Instructors should focus on participant retention by building relationships while providing excellent customer service. General Requirements: Knowledge and application of proper technique and form for exercises, ability to educate and motivate participants, applicant is creative in designing safe and effective group exercise classes. Applicant has knowledge and a means of application of teaching to different fitness levels and applying modifications when necessary. Has an understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures. Displays great customer service skills, communication and decision making skills. Ability to follow instructions, attends all mandatory training/meetings, teaches accident prevention and proper techniques within given format. Must be punctual and professional at all times. Ability to teach evening classes and work with a diverse group. Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of 1 year teaching experience. Requirements: High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Group Exercise Certification preferred from ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine), ACE (American Council on Exercise), NSCA (National Sports and Conditioning Association), NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America), IFA (International Fitness Association), or other related and accredited organization required. Preferred Licensure or Certifications: Current Certification in CPR/AED & First Aid. Please upload a cover letter, resume and class description.
