The Department of Statistics at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking to fill multiple visiting assistant professor positions created to honor the memory of our late colleague Bruce G. Lindsay and his commitment to the mentoring of young scientists and teachers. The visiting assistant professors will receive very competitive salary and benefits, teach one course per semester in an environment supportive of the latest innovations in statistical education, and conduct research under the close mentorship of prominent faculty in various areas of statistical methodology and applications. These include, but are not limited to: (i) statistical inference and non-/semi-parametric modeling for high dimensional data, under the mentorship of Runze Li (; (ii) data privacy and record linkage with applications focus on official statistics, networks, and personalized medicine, among others, under mentorship of Aleksandra Slavkovic (; and (iii) functional data analysis and its applications to complex “omics” data, under the mentorship of Matthew Reimherr ( and Francesca Chiaromonte ( The positions will also offer ample opportunity to interact with Penn State world-class faculty, postdocs and graduate students in various interdisciplinary and interdepartmental programs. At the time he/she joins the department, the successful candidate will hold a PhD in Statistics or closely related field, and will receive an initial appointment of two years which could begin as early as October 2016.
