Description

A position of research technician is available at the research laboratory of Dr. Spiegelman, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology/Oncology at Penn State College of Medicine and Milton S Hershey Medical Center. The laboratory conducts cancer research, employing basic molecular biology and cell culture techniques, transgenic mice and pluripotent stem cells. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to take part in several research and lab management projects to accelerate laboratory productivity overall. The successful applicant will be responsible for performing basic research procedures such as molecular cloning, qPCR or cell culture maintenance. Participation in lab management projects includes organizing standard operating procedure protocols, reagents inventories and supplies ordering. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The ideal applicant should demonstrate understanding of basic molecular biology and cell culture techniques, ability to learn and be creative. Previous experience in working with pluripotent stem cells and with mice is desirable, but not mandatory. The applicants should have excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
