Description

The Institute for CyberScience (ICS) seeks a Software Engineer for HPC Operations for our operations team. This person will be an integral contributor to a fast-paced and growing team of specialists supported by an exciting $45 million Penn State investment in research cyberinfrastructure. Penn State’s elite researchers use our high-performance research cloud to solve real-world problems by conducting simulations, data mining, and other high-performance computing operations. With ICS, you will have the opportunity to support this ground-breaking work. As our Software Engineer for HPC Operations, you will: design, develop, and implement engineered software systems to expand the capabilities of our high-performance research cloud operations; and, lead innovative software solutions to user needs in complex areas such as scientific software applications, parallel computing, web-based user interfaces, data/computing workflow, and input/output interfaces to storage systems. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Our desired qualifications include: scripting in languages such as Python, PowerShell, and bash; experience with APIs and middleware implementation; experience with SCMs such as git; understanding of computing systems, hardware, software, and networks, preferably in a research environment; and experience with Linux operating systems. Experience with the following is a plus: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL); and an understanding of system monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios and SolarWinds).
