Description

The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for the position of Director of the Sustainability Institute and Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO). As the CSO, this individual will be charged with leading the University in integrating sustainability into all aspects of operations, education, research and outreach, in coordination with faculty, students, staff and external stakeholders throughout all Penn State campuses and will report to the Provost and Vice President of Finance and Business. As the Director of the Sustainability Institute, this person will oversee the Institute’s programs and staff, which currently consists of 10 FTE positions, plus interns, a graduate assistant and faculty scholars. The successful candidate is expected to identify and solicit external funds that will be utilized to expand key efforts and encourage innovation. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent credentials consistent with a faculty appointment, outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to build internal and external partnerships. The Director/CSO must also have an interest in facilitating interdisciplinary sustainability scholarship and teaching, and increasing the visibility of Penn State as a recognized leader in sustainability efforts. Applicants with administrative experience in academia, government, non-governmental organizations, or industry are encouraged to apply. As an administrator, the position is subject to yearly goal setting and review, and regular five year performance reviews.
