Description

The College of the Liberal Arts at The Pennsylvania State University seeks an assistant or associate professor who will be appointed as tenure-track faculty in African American Studies, Communication Arts & Sciences, and/or Political Science. To advance the missions of these departments and the interdisciplinary mission of the McCourtney Institute for Democracy (democracyinstitute.la.psu.edu), applicants should demonstrate scholarly and teaching excellence at the intersection of diversity, U.S. politics, and political communication, broadly construed. Examples of research emphases could include: how race and cultural differences shape public institutions; how political institutions or communication influence African American identity or participation; the interplay of policy-making, justice, and inequality in a democratic society; the challenges and promises of multicultural political deliberation in face-to-face or online settings; etc. Faculty positions at Penn State involve substantial research support, and junior positions offer significant release time. Candidates should have a record of publication in high-quality venues, external funding, and quality teaching credentials. Candidates must have their Ph.D. in hand by appointment date. Application review will begin on September 30, 2015, and continue until the position is filled. The start date for the position is August, 2016. Applicants should submit a cover letter explaining their research and teaching experience, a current CV, samples of scholarly writing, teaching evaluations, and the names and contact information for three scholarly references. Candidates interested in the position may contact any of the three search co-chairs—Keith Gilyard in African American Studies (rkg3@psu.edu), Eric Plutzer in Political Science (exp12@psu.edu), and Kirt Wilson in Communication Arts & Sciences (khw2@psu.edu).
