The Exercise Psychology Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology, College of Health and Human Development, under the direction of Dr. Danielle Downs, is seeking part-time Fitness Instructors to work intermittently up to 10-20 hours per week for an interdisciplinary project funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH). This research project focuses on developing and delivering an individually-tailored, behavioral intervention to manage gestational weight gain during pregnancy. The Fitness Instructors will meet with individual participants on a weekly basis and guide them through physical activity education, goal-setting and a moderate-intensity physical activity session (e.g., treadmill walking, low impact aerobics, cycle ergometer, stretching, low-impact resistance training). Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, organization and management of the physical activity sessions, space, and intervention protocol; training and supervising research assistants; data collection; oversight of safety protocol for physical activity; and supervising flow of participants through the physical activity portion of the study. Minimum requirements are a Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, fitness, psychology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience. CPR certification, fitness certification, and one-on-one fitness experience are preferred. The successful candidate must possess exemplary organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. The job may require flexible work hours including evenings and weekends. These are part-time appointments. Hours will vary based upon need.
