The Department of Chemistry at The Pennsylvania State University seeks outstanding applicants for tenure-track faculty positions in the area of organic chemistry, broadly defined. Both junior and senior candidates are encouraged to apply. While the research focus of the search is broad, candidates whose scientific interests complement those of existing faculty are preferred. Successful applicants should be capable of achieving teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department of Chemistry at Penn State has many advantages to offer new faculty members, including a stable pool of highly motivated graduate students, excellent support staff, comprehensive mass spectroscopy and NMR capabilities, and a 177,000 square foot chemistry research building on the University Park campus. Moreover, many desirable built-ins are available, including house dry N2, house vacuum, flow-through solvent purification systems, 8` hoods, fully integrated IT capabilities, cold rooms, and autoclaves. Research areas with overlap in the biological sciences benefit from many opportunities for tie-ins with the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences (http://www.huck.psu.edu/). Also, the Materials Research Institute (http://www.mri.psu.edu/) and the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment (http://www.environment.psu.edu/) offer many prospects for interactions and collaboration.
