Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern Pa, Inc. (Ben Franklin/CNP) is the largest early-stage investor and supporter of start-up companies across our 32-county footprint. This individual serves as principal point-of-contact for entrepreneurs and companies seeking financial investment and management and technical services from Ben Franklin/CNP in Northwestern PA. The primary service area for this position is the 7-county region comprised of Erie, Clarion, Crawford, Forest, Mercer, Venango and Warren counties. The Ben Franklin NW PA office is located at Knowledge Park in Erie. The Regional Director encourages entrepreneurship and innovation in the NW region, and is an enthusiastic supporter of new business growth coming from all possible locations, populations, and sources of innovation. Active interaction and outreach to the business, investment/finance, higher-education, and technology sectors is required. Primary responsibility is to prospect for, select, mentor, and facilitate due-diligence on the most promising companies for Ben Franklin/CNP investment, most often in the critical start-up or early-stage of the company’s growth. Additionally, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage with companies in our portfolio across the rest of our 32-county region, based on the company needs and the candidate’s business skills and experience. The ideal candidate will have first-hand entrepreneurial or start-up experience. Added responsibilities include presenting vetted prospective investments to the Ben Franklin/CNP Board for funding approval, coordinating business mentoring for funded companies, tracking company milestones and progress, plus helping in any way possible to protect the entrepreneurs’ and the Ben Franklin Center’s investments. The regional director reports directly to the President/CEO of Ben Franklin/CNP. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferably experience in a technology-based private-sector company or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Enthusiasm for the potential of NW PA and for educated risk-taking is a must. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as the ability work both independently and in a team-oriented environment, are essential.
