Description

The University Library is looking for an exceptional student to serve as a GIS intern with the Data Learning Center. The GIS Intern will work closely with the GIS Specialist and Geospatial Services Librarian to gain practical knowledge and skills to further geospatial initiatives of the University Libraries. The Data Learning Center's mission is to “inspire intellectual discovery by providing services to help users transform data into information.” Find out more about the Data Learning center at: http://tinyurl.com/psu-dlc Intern activities include: aiding in geospatial consultations by providing assistance to patrons' questions regarding GIS techniques, geospatial research, and geospatial software; contributing to geospatial online pages and tools used in support of consultations; contributing to geospatial projects of the University Libraries to further use of collections, discovery, and knowledge; developing information session on geospatial topic to enhance understanding for the libraries. Desired skills and experience: junior or senior in good academic standing; advanced training (e.g. coursework) and/or experience with at least one GIS software; interest in learning the consultation process; desire and ability to work in a collaborative environment; ability to work independently on assigned tasks; a desire to learn about geospatial initiatives within the University Libraries. Workload is flexible, but can be up to 20 hours per week during the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters.
