We are seeking a part-time Research Assistant to help conduct an NIH-funded study exploring the feasibility of using compact pedaling devices to increase physical activity in the workplace. In addition, the Research Assistant may assist with ongoing studies exploring the influence of the built and social environment on physical activity, nutrition, and health behavior change. The work will take place under the supervision of Dr. Liza Rovniak (Principal Investigator). The successful candidate will be responsible for many important aspects of the research including: screening potential participants for study eligibility criteria; designing study materials and websites; scheduling lab-based sessions; collecting and recording objectively-measured work performance and physical activity data in lab and field settings; conducting interviews; assisting with IRB submissions and reports; and assisting with data cleaning, statistical analyses, and manuscript preparation. Required skills: A Bachelor`s, Master`s, or Doctoral degree in a field such as psychology, engineering, kinesiology, or public health; driver`s license and willingness to occasionally travel between the Hershey and University Park campuses; ability to communicate clearly and professionally with participants and research team members; strong organization and administrative skills and excellent attention to detail; experience with data/file management; word processing (MS Word); spreadsheets (Excel); and presentations (PowerPoint). Preferred skills: prior research experience; experience conducting objective assessments and interviews; experience working with accelerometers; familiarity with basic statistical analysis and software (e.g., SPSS); experience with website design/management and computer programming. This is a part-time position that will average approximately 10 to 20 hours per week. Funding for this position is available for at least one year with a good possibility of re-funding.
